1986 Honda spree wiring help?
I got my spree Friday, and the rear wires were completely shot. The tail light came on, but only just. The brake light didn't light didn't light up when I pressed brake, signals weren't connected, front signals don't work. Does anyone know if the battery controls the lights? I haven't had time to put a new battery in yet. However the headlight works.

DC - (Battery) power is used for turn signals, tail, brake and horn features, and starting. On the side - the CDI needs no DC power. That is why you can kick start a scooter with a dead/failed or missing battery.
AC - Stator output is used for the Headlight and (typically) dash light. A working headlight is good, but does not help with your other lighting problem.

If your DC system can barely light the taillight, then turn signals, brake and even horn will not light. Reason being is the taillight is 8w (about 2/3 amp), Brake light draw is just under 2 amps, and turn signals will hit 4 amps.
Discharged or failed batteries can cause the above symptoms. So can poor connections at terminals and grounds.

Here is what I mean by wiring is shot btw
I know that 3 of them go to the tail light, which I rewired. But the others are still a mystery to me. If you want I can get another pic that shows the colors better

Look more like the PO either tore things off or butchered the system.adios1344 wrote:Here is what I mean by wiring is shot btw

Well upon further inspection, this wiring isn't really destroyed. Looking at the wiring diagram, all of those wires connect to the Right and Left turn signals, and the tail/brake light. Its all there, just disconnected.
Re: 1986 Honda spree wiring help?
I am throwing in the towel on this wiring. Buying another proper harness. This is ridiculous. Now, after rewiring my tail light again, it doesn't come on at all, and Electric start doesn't work, nor does horn. Battery is fine though. Still reads 12.54 volts.
Re: 1986 Honda spree wiring help?
Two things:
1) No brake light, no electric start.
2) 12.54 volts is a half charged battery. 12.6 to 12.8 volts is charged and close to 12.8 is truly charged.

Disregard again. The 7amp fuse blew when I shorted the turn signal wire Did a temp. bypass until I can get another fuse tomorrow, wewt.
