87 SE50 motor swap?
I have a stock SE50 and I want to have an 94 on AF16 motor for more speed potential. I hit a wall at about 40-42mph and I want to go faster. I don't want to BBK it since it is only limited to 63cc (short stroke). I have the shorter 11 gears not the 10s. Will it swap in and if so, is there a procedure posted somewhere?

It will swap in with mods. Check the scooter builds section for detailed swaps with pictures.

Use the 87 motor mount, pull 2 metal dowels from the kicker case cover to sleeve the motor mount bolt. After that, just wire it up (plugs don't match, but it's color coded).

I thought it was nearly a direct swap

Thanks for the info. It confirms what someone told me. The motor mounts are different.

Re: 87 SE50 motor swap?
I decided to just keep my af05 motor. It's harder to find and more satisfying to modify. I like things that are more ummm challenging.. If I get 45 mph, I'll be happy. Also, I'll address my 7500 rpm "wall" I regularly hit. I may be just running slightly lean at WOT. Or it may be normal. It is calculated to be 41mph. I have a 90 jet with a partially covered UNI filter. I'll check the plug the first chance I get.

The mounts are different but it works just fine, provided you add those 2 tiny sleeves. AF05 is worthless IMO, why make life hard when you don't have to? If you get serious on modding, once you max out the AF05 you'd rip it out for a dio anyway.

I know, good point. I may pick one up very soon! I can sell my motor, trade it or keep it as a spare.

Re: 87 SE50 motor swap?
Mine goes about 45 on flat ground with pretty amazing acceleration. Hills don't really affect it very much. 8.4 gears are no good though. Too tall to max out the motor. I'm going to order 7.1, 9.1, and 9.8 gears to see which I like best. Se50 motor is good if you just want a quick scooter. Dio motor is better if you want an over the top, ridiculous fast, scooter. Is much rather have a dio motor but they are just too expensive

Re: 87 SE50 motor swap?
Whats your max rpm? Just make a spreadsheet to calculate your speed. You can put in the gear ratio and rpm. Why the 7.1? That's even taller!

Re: 87 SE50 motor swap?
I looked at that chart and it says 45 was like 7k tor 8.4. I'm worried 9.1 won't rev any higher and ill go even slower. I figure maybe 7.1 still might be able to get to 7k and ill go faster. I don't know. I just want to be able to experiment. Plus ill have them if I ever find a dio motor. I want to try 9.8 in my aero and see what it doesTiffanySpree wrote:Whats your max rpm?
