If I were going to try for 65mph both motors would be needed to reach max speed. The way I would gear it for top speed would be with a smaller sprocket (30t) it has a 54t right now. I have the 30t but its more fun with the 54 for zipping around. anyways the way it would work if I put the 30t on is the spree motor would be like 1st gear to get it going then the sidecar motor would be like 2nd gear. Once I hit 35 I would just kill the spree motor and let the sidecar motor take over. with the spree motor off the rear wheel is free spinning.
On another note the sidecar NEEDS its own motor to carry a passenger. I tried to give a ride with just the spree motor running and it struggles to pull all that weight....

The problem with this theory is simple; If you shut off the spree engine at speed, the clutch will remain engaged and the engine will continue to turn. The clutch will not disengage because it will continue to spin at the same speed. Seeing as it is a centrifugal clutch, it will continue doing it's job until the clutch drops below it's engagement speed. You'd have to go for it on sidecar power alone, which would be idiotic.

OK I get what you are saying. For a top speed run I guess I would have to start on a hill to get it rolling then just use the sidecar motor.
OK so I admit, the scooter/sidecar idea is not perfect but it was fun to build and its somthing I have never seen done. Its fun driving it around town, gets tons of honks and thumbs up (and they dont even know about the second motor). My main hopes was yall would get a kick out of it as I sure have. BTW it may be for sale soon
