Re: True Grits 50cc Fun Run
The 30th Annual True Grits went off without a hitch this past Saturday in Suches, Ga.
Sky was overcast, grey, and cool. No rain was the best factor that made this ride a total pleasure...
I never noticed any cold once the throttle-hand got to work....
Wearing leather was perfect for the temperature.
My Teknic Kevlar gauntlets, so far un-worn since buying for motard, proved extremely comfy and warm.
Member GKinTN had the Go-Pro on for the whole ride.
He will post a link after it's edited. Or I will...
I went ahead of GK out of the gate just to make sure I got on the video, fully expecting him to go around me in short order.
I got around 3 bikes leaving GK trapped behind them for a long time....
I kept wondering, Where's GK ?....
Never saw him again until the finish line @ Suches Community center.
Terrain of this event is plainly, mountains.
Never have I seen such overly-twisted pavement, and kept up properly with paint stripes and reflectors.
Those reflectors were a little annoying on the bike though.
Loss of traction, even momentarily, can have dramatic results when coming near the apex....yikes ! !
I've noticed a trend involving 50cc bikes and age. Many life-long riders will have larger bikes, for the obvious reasons, but you find those same veterans riding "hot fiftys" and confessing they ride them because they're just more fun.
The ride, the bikes, the riders, the terrain, and going for a good cause...this was a fantastic weekend i will cherish and repeat often...

Re: True Grits 50cc Fun Run
Greetings:
That's a priceless pic, MotorMike! Autumn colors, NS banked at full song, Squiggly Curves warning sign in the background. Mike's attention riveted on the apex ahead. Just watch out for clumps of wet fallen leaves.

Re: True Grits 50cc Fun Run
Thank you for saying, Guy...
The experience was priceless, the 8X10 glossy offered at nominal cost....
The colors were at peak, and thankfully, those leaf-slicks were absent.
This particular right-hander was on the decline, apparently the likely spot for Miss photo-snap to capture
each rider at less than WOT in a pose dictated by the curve.
As the run progressed, the self-imposed mandate was to overtake that next bike ahead of me,
and repeat often.
I admit to getting very lucky when purchasing my NS, as she has required only sprockets, chain, and rear tire to be "happy"
It takes one time through this event to realize that it is not actually a race to win, but a "run to enjoy"
I would have repeated the run on the following day, but rain and much cooler temps removed the urge.
I expect to repeat this annually, and looking around at the crowd that was there, many others have come to the same decision....even a Ft Worthener on MB5.....

Re: True Grits 50cc Fun Run
Reserved my cabin already this year. Just received the confirmation.
A friend has offered me loan of his Gorilla suit.
The organizers promote the wearing of costumes and such, but I really can't see me doing a Gorilla suit.
Spiderman maybe...hahaha
z50r-ghost NEEDS to be there this time, Lord willing and the creeks don't rise.
My area was pretty well represented in 2012 with at least 7 locals in attendance.
Hoping that member harrrdy will have free time to ride this one.
Also hoping that weather gives me more than one ride.
I'd love to stay a few days and do some wandering.
If you can spare the time and trouble to attend this 31st annual event, you'll find it loads of fun participating.

Re: True Grits 50cc Fun Run
True Grits will run on Oct.24, 2015.
I have already been asked to join in the fun again.
Having sold my NS50F, I am left with deciding which bike to take this year.
Here is one that is going to the "doctor" today for a complete "physical"...my recently acquired Yamaha RX50MK
I'm not too sure about riding this Yamaha for the actual Fun Run, but I want to take it and show it off.
Likely that I will ride the Sym Wolf to avoid stressing the Yamaha on such a taxing ride.

Re: True Grits 50cc Fun Run
I'd run the rx! Its rebuild cost is pretty cheap. Good luck either way!
The place I work for is a sym dealership if you need parts let me know, or you're probably still under warranty I bet.

118 miles showing. Seems like none of these bikes get ridden far.motormike wrote:True Grits will run on Oct.24, 2015.

The Sym's a 150, right? How's that square with the other riders?

The event is for charity and the trophies presented are entirely symbolic of your participation...there is no "race" in the strictest sense.noiseguy wrote:118 miles showing. Seems like none of these bikes get ridden far.

Most bikes are legitimately 50cc, but the whole point is about FUN, so NO-ONE is DEFEATED.
All registered participants receive a plaque like the one pictured in this thread.
Numerous KE100's show up.
Everybody who has participated previously knows the score, and first-timers soon realize that competition is strictly between friends for bragging rights.
