No, the turbocharged 4t meets emissions and spanks the natural 2t.bushpigwillie wrote:So you have to turbo charge to get a 4t to match normally aspirated 2t. Sounds like 2t is still the better power unit!

Re: 2 strokes are coming back?!
Wheelman,
You know your history well but I am referring to your earlier comment regarding modern snowmobiles. Our current problem isn't lack of power, it is lack of reliably transmitting the power. Blowing $180 belts from stock power is annoying. Shredding $240 belts from aftermarket power is even worse.
No turbo lag, massive bottom end torque that the 2t can't match. At 70, the 4t turbo really pulls away. The 2t can reach upper teens but the 4t turbo runs into 120s and pulls hard getting there, not creeping up there like the natural 2t.

Re: 2 strokes are coming back?!
Greetings:
Yikes! The last time I bought a snowmobile belt for the family Skiroule RTX 340 it cost something around $20. Of course it only had to transmit 34HP to the track... I've been out of snowmobiling since 1976.
Do any stock sleds feature Turbos? Not mine, but just like it.

Re: 2 strokes are coming back?!
Yes, Arctic Cat sells factory installed turbo 4t with a claimed 177hp at the crank. Yamaha sells dealer option turbos and blowers on the 4t triple, I have not seen a claim for their hp. My guess it that it is lower than AC because yamahas don't burn as many belts. For 2014, yamaha will be buying some sleds from AC.
SkiDoo and polaris might but I don't think so.

Aftermarket companies buy factory direct and hop them up as high as 300 for public sale.
Our drag sled is around 360, naturally aspirated 2t triple power.
