The 1988 Elite LX has the "AF05E" engine.
The 2001 has the "AF16E".
Expect exact fit to be unlikely.

Good luck...

YES!.......they are the same carburetor(basically). It will work, it's the same size, but there is a small space(length)difference on the rubber connector with the clamp. Just push it up a little closer together with the carburetor so the air box mounting bolts will line up. It's easy to fit.
I have a bunch of these old, dried out rubber connectors in sa50 air boxes just waiting for someone to make them work again! but, wait!
............I am in the process of re-fitting them with new, larger(honda made part)rubber connectors for anyone with say, a jdm sk50 dio carburetor? or a aero nh80-sized carburetor? and want to keep the sa50 air box.
I will be posting them very soon here on hs.net.......
Now I have to go check in my storage......
It's been years since I had the stock motor in my lx but I can remember the rubber getting so dried out and hard it would not stay on the carburetor so I used one from my used elite sr parts. I thought it fit good enough. I was not saying they were identical. I know the covers swap too and uses the same filter.
