Variator Question
The AF16 and AF18 CANNOT use the same variator correct? Different size shafts? Just making sure.

Re: Variator Question
I'm not 100% but I think the crank shaft is a different diameter, and you have to use a different variator boss. But you might be able to swap variators using the original boss?

Re: Variator Question
Greetings:
Only the first year of AF18 engines used the skinnier crankshaft, so it'd be good to know your model year of AF18. The crank diameter is the same as that of the AF05 (SE05 variated) engine, so the ID of the boss for that engine fits the early AF18 crank. It might be short, however. This can be remedied by shim washers, available commercially or bring a trained eye and a micrometer to the hardware store. The OD of both bosses fits the stock, Polini, Keli, Malossi etc. variators.

Re: Variator Question
I do not have an AF18, I have an 94'-01' AF16. The seller with the used parts here has it all on an AF18... not sure what year it is, but i can ask.

Re: Variator Question
Greetings:
Ah, so you only need to procure the boss that fits the 16 crank, which comes with most aftermarket variators, or hit up me or almost anyone here who's bought a variator. I suspect that's about 99 percent of us.
