Do not swap Spree engines

Do not swap Spree engines
On this forum every time someone starts talking about making a Spree run better someone says swap the engine. Many people don't want to swap the engine. Please stop that. Answer the question asked or don't but stop with the engine swap nonsense. It's as bad as the Chevy people saying just put in a LS-xy1fr. Everyone knows you can swap an engine to whatever engine you want. That's easy. Some people want to improve something not turn it into a different vehicle.
Re: Do not swap Spree engines
You are wrong, sir. When someone wants their Spree to run “better” advice is given to help with issues. If your Spree wont start, runs badly, cuts out at wot, overheats or ANY OTHER mechanical issue...NOBODY has ever suggested swapping the motor as repair advice.
When someone wants their Spree to have more power, faster acceleration, higher top speed, etc...THATS when swapping the motor makes monetary sense.
I need to find some new haters...the ones I have are starting to like me.
Re: Do not swap Spree engines
A fast scooter NEVER makes monetary sense. For less than $500 I can pick up a decent motorcycle that will run close to 100mph. You chose to change your Spree into a Dio or whatever with Spree plastics but countless people have asked about improving the performance of the Spree not some other engine.Meatball wrote: ↑Sun Oct 13, 2019 11:52 amYou are wrong, sir. You have stated an opinion. Opinions are welcome here and so are the opinions of others.Abc wrote: ↑Sun Oct 13, 2019 9:48 am On this forum every time someone starts talking about making a Spree run better someone says swap the engine. But your post is titled as a directive which may not bring discussion, but defensive arguments.
We’ll see what happens.......
EDIT: As I was posting this, there are already additional posts above.

Re: Do not swap Spree engines
Of course you can improve the performance of a Spree. The issue, is whether or not the changes will give you the performance boost you are seeking. Then there is another major factor.. cost. For a 45mph+ Spree, you will spend upwards of $500 though you lose a significant amount of bottom end acceleration. That $500+ cost, might inevitably lead to disappointment for many. An engine swap is much cheaper to do and the performance increase on one, without doing modifications, is way better then the performance a $500+ Spree engine will ever be able to squeeze out. Plus part are readily available. The main downside to this, is yes, in many case, you end up cutting up plastics, which isn't something I'm very fond of. Though, with the right planning, this plastic cutting can be very minimal. Swap in a variated AF05 with a DJ-1 mount and change the intake out for a Polini system, with proper planning, you will retain all of your plastics. I really honestly though, don't see cutting plastics as too much of a big deal except for 2 models of the Spree. The 86' Special Edition, and 87' Iowa Editions should NEVER have their plastics molested or engines swapped as these are both too rare to be doing that to. Most any other Spree, is cookie cutter. Meaning if one was really concerned with it, they could just go buy some less then perfect side panels, remove the good panels, and use the replacement as the cut up guinea pig.

What mods do you do to a Spree for $500 to make it 45mph or more?eclark5483 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 13, 2019 3:18 pm Of course you can improve the performance of a Spree. Re: Do not swap Spree engines
AF16 swap it!
Re: Do not swap Spree engines
I literally swapped my spree with an af16 for free. A derestricted af16 can do 45mph. Super easy swap also.
Title should be "never spend money on a spree engine"
Sorry but just my opinion.

Re: Do not swap Spree engines
Once you learn about the difficulty trying to improve a Spree engine,
you may better understand why the reply "swap a Dio" became a forum joke here.
Maybe you have missed the genuine replies to Spree posts.
In time, you too may understand the waste of time and money that is involved trying to improve Spree engines.

Yeah, that's not going to happen; it's sort of where the board is.
In meantime, I sell a Spree filter which is dual-density foam, here: https://www.ebay.com/itm/142574699027
And carbon fiber reeds, here: https://www.ebay.com/itm/142928234773
SSS sells a pulley kit.

Re: Do not swap Spree engines
Simple solution buy 1 spree to keep original and restore and then another to swap in the Af16 bam!
