try a locksmith first.. One that specializes in making and cutting keys.

I've tried Walmart before with no luck, but heard places that just specialize in cutting keys can do it.

My honda dealer couldnt even get me the blanks. Any locksmith should be able to do it, look for an old mom and pop type place thats been there for 30+ years.
I am not a mechanic, nor do I play one on TV. Actually my advice is probably worth slightly less than what you pay to view it.

This site appears to sell the correct key blanks. Comparing my key to the pictures, mine seems to match the first 6 "R" keys. They have different styles ranging from $4 to $9 (plus $2 flat rate shipping regardless of the number of blanks). http://www.motorcyclekeys.com/blanks2.html

There is a Honda place locally here too. I need to get a few spares made as well. I got one Honda-branded plastic head key with my Spree.

I only got a single worn key with my '85 Spree so I took a ride to the Honda
cycle dealer a few miles away.

He only had to look at the key to get the # off of it. A few minutes later he came back and handed me the new key. A bit longer... like a regular car key.

$3.50 plus tax.

today i removed the trunk lock. It was easy to unlock with a screw driver, and it slides out really easily. The lock cylinder has a code on the outside of it, this is apparently the "stamp" code. The stamp on the seat lock and the ignition match (so says the guy at the honda dealership) thus they make the same keys.

I got the keys made, and it cost me 17 dollars for 1 stamp and 1 duplicate. More than i expected, but much better than the 100 it would have cost at a locksmith.

the guy at the honda dealership told me i should never shove a screwdriver in any of these holes. thats what she said.

oh, and the U-Lock i had on the wheel? It got angle grinder owned. The spree is free.

(p.s. i lost my moped keys (bike lock and ignition) on my camping trip this weekend.)

You were quoted $100!?!???????!!!! I would have to ask my mom for the exact number but she had keys made for her camper (brought in the lock) and it was under $20 for 2 keys.

My local Honda dealer gave me a free key for my Spree.

Prices for keys can vary by the place you go to though.

I have a late model Ford car that uses transponder keys. The big, local Ford dealer wanted about $90 for a duplicate key since they had to make one using their computer hooked to the car as I only had one such key. I called up a much smaller dealer about 20 miles away and they only wanted $50 for the same key and labor. So maybe Honda Powersports places are the same in respect to prices. Some places may charge you almost twice as much as others.

yea, i sort of got in an argument with the guy at the honda dealership about the difference between the seat lock and the ignition on the spree. tried to tell him they were actually different locks since the seat doesnt have pins. He insisted i was wrong. I wanted to be like "ya well this dude with 800 posts on hondaspree.net said so!!!"
