Stalling spree
1986 honda spree in near mint condition,225 miles on it. Its been having a problem keeping running after you stop.It runs mint while you drive it but once you stop it will stall.It will start right back up if you twist the throttle at the same time.It will take a second to get back up to idle bog a little bit when you take off and run mint again.I did just replace the air filter due to the original being half gone from deteriorating.I have taken the carb apart a bunch of times and found nothing.The only thing I question is the small tube next to where the main jet goes.Should there be an opening straight through there?It would kill me to bring this to a mechanic.

Search for all the carb cleaning info you can find in Tech. The legendary, un-photographable pilot jet pin-* of light can only be seen in a dark room on a moonless night, holding a flashlight behind and covering up the main jet tower. I myself have seen it. Twice. You have to move the flashlight and your eyes around to catch a glimpse. If you see it, your stalling problems may be over. As long as that was your problem to begin with...
Check for spooge in your fuel line. Assess the condition of the tank strainer. Clear fuel line and one of those "Cone O' Stone" yard machine filters are cheap insurance.

Did you try just turning your idle screw in a bit to increase the idle RPMs? Put your scoot on its center stand and increase the idle until just before your back wheel starts turning. That may cure the stall at stops.

I tried that.Even went in and out with the fuel/air screw still didnt work.

If it runs fine at speed then you do not have a tank or fuel delivery problem.
Have you tried jacking the idle speed up? It is suppose to be 1800 RPM to start with and if you go much lower than that, some engines will not sustain themselves and quit.
If that doesn't work you have a carb issue, regardless of how many times you have taken it apart.

Or you can't just crank the idle speed up until the rear wheel starts rotating then back it down a little. At least that's how I dealt with the issue.

I have tried that with no result.I still have a question about the small brass tube that is right next to the main jet chamber.If you look through the top of the carb where the needle would go you can see a small hole.I am wonderining if its blocked or even if it goes all the way through.I did not try a light on one end.but I deed clean the carb and blew it dry with compressor.

It is next to impossible to "see" air blowing thru a tube. Try squirting either carb cleaner, WD-40 or Brakleen thru the hole. You can see if fluid comes out. No fluid, the hole is plugged and could very well be your problem. Is you scooter motor hard to start?

Yes, I have to give it gas to start it.But once running it will idle fine.

Only when its warm if I remember correctly

Warm and throttle is normal. Cold and throttle is bad. I suspect you have a high float setting and when you slow down, you slosh a bunch of fuel (in these itty bitty little engines a lot isn't much) into the intake system and your engine floods out.banshman wrote:Only when its warm if I remember correctly
