throttle cable sticking
okay. so, i searched through the threads, and came up w/ a few similar things, but none of it worked, so, here's my dilemma.
One night as i was riding(yes, it was cold) the throttle got stuck full open, had to ride the brakes home.
next day, tried to start it up, and it was still on WOT.
so. i adjusted the connection near the handle bar.
nothing.
next i removed the jetting needle assembly from the carb. found out the retainer wasnt sitting in there right(im assuming that centered laying flat against the bottom is right), i reassembled the spring, needle, etc. throttle will turn once, then gets stuck in place. i have to manually pull on the cable to get it to spring back out.
now, do you all think this is due to something keeping the needle stuck in the carb? Or is it possible i need to replace the whole cable?
thank you in advance for your replies.

Re: throttle cable sticking
Sounds like the cable it self is sticking.Either lube the cable or replace it.

Exciting Ride
Greetings:
The throttle slide has a slit cut into the right (towards the rear wheel) side. There is a corresponding nub cast into the slide bore. If care is not taken (for example, tapping the slide in with a hammer... ) to make sure the slide is oriented so that the nub engages the slide slit, the bore and/or slide can get munged with alarming ease. If the slide doesn't, er... slide easily, that's your problem. On the other hand, you can get a feel for how much the cable drags while it's disconnected. The only other factor in throttle self-closing is the spring that pushes off the throttle cap against the slide.

Re: throttle cable sticking
thank you wheelman. i knew about that "nub", and am always careful to align it properly, but it does seem to be catching in there. when it's disconnected, there is plenty of movement on the throttle.
i just cant figure out what's keeping it stuck in there.

So the cable moves freely back and forth?

Re: throttle cable sticking
as long as its not attached to the carb, it moves perfectly.

Re: throttle cable sticking
Check to see if the needle is bent. That would also cause the slide to stick.

Re: throttle cable sticking
hmm. how much bend would effect it? i mean, it looks straight, but, if there are minuscule proportions of difference that affect it, it is possible.
its too cold, its been in garage since snow fell, i'll work on it when it warms back up.

Re: throttle cable sticking
so...
um...
yeh. after taking everything apart, cleaning the carb, pulling the throttle cable out. and then putting it back together.
it still didn't work.
but, i was looking at some pictures online, and it turns out... the problem was very simple(if you know what you're doing((which i dont)).)
turns out the throttle valve has a slit on one side all the way down(for the cable) and another notch on the back(for the adjustment screw)
now, i didnt know, because when i unscrewed it, it all popped out, but, the long slit goes in toward the back, not the front(noob mistake).
so, thank you all for your help, my bike is running perfectly now.
