that goes under one of the bolts that hold the starter on, it is the ground to make the starter work

Revived!
Alright. Just got my new stock cylinder and piston from Taz today. Couldn't wait so I decided to go ahead and start reassembling everything.
With the piston rings on
Beautiful new piston and bore
Sure beats this
All reassembled (head looks dirtier than I would like it) got exhaust threads on new port.
Now just to reassemble the rest, retune my carb (which well need a bit of assistance) and a few other things to get her back on the open road!

Re: Revived!
Got everything put back together and got the motor back on the scoot, all the wires and everything attached, filled up the gas tank, and the oil tank. I made sure that I had a little oil in the cylinder to keep it from seizing. Kicked it real slow to make sure that I had 100% motion (success). Put my key in the ignition, went to kick start again and..... nothing happened. The piston is free and is moving smoothly, everything sounds alright. There is just no purring. I checked and made sure all my wires are connected and everything seems as it should. Any ideas? Is there a way to prime it? Thanks

Re: Revived!
it takes a while for the carb to fill with fuel, but it might take longer for the oil pump to get oil to the intake manifold. might want to mix some oil with the fuel for initial start. To prime it you can disconnect the petcock vacuum line from the intake mainifold and apply vacuum to it for a while to allow fuel to fill the bowl. or using a squeeze bottle you can squirt premixed fuel into the carb put the filter back on and crank it.

Re: Revived!
About how many cranks does it take to get the appropriate vacuum, oil/gas levels in carb/oil pump? I cranked it probably 20-30 times.

Re: Revived!
honestly I would have checked compression before i even tried to start it then once again after i got it running kick it over a few times to see if hte plug gets wet as well that way you know if it is getting gas or not

Re: Revived!
To prime the carb just put your hand over the intake of the carb. Kick start it with half throttle and the hand over the intake of the carb until you feel gas wet your fingers. This will prime the carb. Do not do this with the scooter off the stand if your a newb. lol
If you dont feel gas hit your fingers check your petcock.
If the gas is fine check for spark.
Check for spark.

Re: Revived!
Did you fix your head direction? It needs to face the right direction for proper cooling and so it will not melt the shroud.

Who needs a handful of jets to tune?? It is easy to tune a carb.
