Most reliable, low maintenance NEW 50cc scooter? SUGGESTIONS
I currently have a 1986 spree and I would like to upgrade next year with my income tax return. I figure the best approach would be to go with a brand new scoot so I don't have to carry any extra baggage from PO's. I am looking to buy something that will just keep spinning that odometer without a hitch.
I really have my eye on a metropolitan as they keep popping up on my radar as a reliable scoot with a 40+ mph stock top speed. I also heard that the 2013 model has fuel injection. Any input would be helpful. I really think I would need a scoot that goes 40 just to escape the cages that try to run me over at my current 30 mph. I would still like any suggestions regardless of top speed. I believe I will have around $2,000 to work with when the time comes.

New 50cc that will do 40MPH?
Would need to be a 2-stroke, or larger than 50cc.

Re: Most reliable, low maintenance NEW 50cc scooter? SUGGEST
There are no performance upgrades for the 2013 Metropolitan. Only for the 2009 and earlier.
A 2006-2009 Met out of the box will do about 35-38, some claim more, up to 50. Check out TotalRuckus.com.

Kk loving the input. I might end up getting a ruckus as those are sold here locally. Zuma also has my attention for the additional speed, 2 stroke power, and 117 mpg or something.

ruckus looks cool but plan on spending some bucks to gain speed....
going new and what power/speed.... TEST DRIVE always including a hill... ruckus, zuma, aprilla, kymco, etc and remember also ride each model (eg kymco)...
not sure if you will still buy the ruckus... but again, it does look cool... but my '86 stock Honda Aero seems to have more giddy up than the stock ruckus (latest one compared was '10 model) ...
didn't someone note Yamaha is releasing a new Jog? ... I'll be test driving that one if so...
and rethink your notion of going new as many buyers of scoots rarely ride them... I'm blown away by the substantial savings on '09 - present scoots on craigs with their respective conditions/low mileage and of course price... that savings could be your piggy bank for upgrades ....
ps my stock '01 jog is faster than the aero...

Re: Most reliable, low maintenance NEW 50cc scooter? SUGGEST
Greetings:
According to Motorcycle Consumer News, despite it's New Tech Fuel Injection and Retro Air Cooling, the new Met struggles to get to 37MPH, while the previous MET I (NOT the restricted Met II) was electronically limited to 42MPH or ~75KPH. You'd actually go faster with a nice used or New Old Stock 2010 Met. Some dealers still have a few gathering dust - never sold - for $1,999.
If it's the fastest 50 you need, the Aprilia SR is likely the only show in town. However, you're spending painfully close to CBR250 money (like ~$3K) to get it.

Most of my money is spent on scooterparts. The rest is just wasted.

How much do those go for? Are you saying they are 3k or 3k less than the other one?

Got three Mets. Change the oil every 2000, put gas in `em, and ride `em. Check the air pressure in the tires every spring. That`s it.
We can learn much from wise words, and less from wise guys.

Get a '08 or '09 met with low miles.
