YIKES! Static compression was 175!
Is this the well-researched intent of the manufacturer? I do not absolutely trust my HF tester, and I am inclined to think that Malossi stuff should be Bolt-On, but it's disconcerting. I plan to fire up today and cycle it a few times.

Wheel man.. My setup before adding head gaskets was like 160..i ended up using 2 minarelli metal head gaskets besides the the o-ring on the head..

And i constantly checked for leaks.. An still as of now.. I have the 2 metal gaskets plus the o-ring.. And has been beautiful..i got my compressiom down to 125 on the dot with the 2 gaskets, you'll definitly need to add.. I was told you could even end up using 3 if thats what it'll take to get it down.. If you cant get your hands on those gaskets let me kno..

The most RPM EVER ginned by the Corsa was 10,600.
I believe it is wise to lower compression if my 175 is accurate, but I'm not sure it is. If so, I don't see why Malossi made the kit - supposedly Bolt-On - come up with this value. I have some real concerns using compressible gaskets under an O-Ring. I am glad it's worked out for you, and I appreciate your response, but a flat metal spacer is what may be indicated here. I have an absurdl expensive one from Japan, but it's 50mm.
Has ANYONE ever bolted up a Malossi withou addressing this?

i have fitted up the malossi kit for the afo5e with the 0 ring head my compression was at 160 i took the gamble and ran it that way i figured that malossi built it that way hy mess wih it i have 2200km on it and it still runs strong i checked compression last week and it sits at 156psi

Assembled into the wee hours. First checked skirt clearance, heeding warnings from other Iron owners: No touch on my case at all. Oven mitt to prevent Forum from seeing hairy Wheel-thumbs. Next a port check. I meant to measure the stroke, but got distracted and it was bolted down when I remembered. View of the Rising Piston at BDC just clearing the bottom of the exhaust port. I tend to install the piston completely, then use Massive Wheel-Grip to compress the rings and wiggle the slug into the cylinder: A massive Motul slathering preceded the install. It's not blood or H-D grease turing to blood on contact with Honda-san's fnest. Anyone else think these circular clips are a Bee-Yotch to get in?
To check compression, the carb can be off (or held WOT) but the reeds do need to be in place. Maybe this is why I'm getting 175 when others report 160? Anyway, a view of my Ported CT Chrome: No, it's not as purty as my exhaust, and far less important. Took 10 minutes. (And it shows...)
Here's the Yikes! factor: That was hand-cranking, and didn't want to go above despite several re-checks. Now I'm thinking this is a thick-walled Iron block made to a high degree of precision. I plan to continue my tradition of jetting rich, and a long slow break-in is planned, so I'm taking a chance and running this "Bolt-On" kit as delivered. I may live to regret it, but not crazy about double-gaskets under an O-Ringed head. If I add anything, it'll be a BASE gasket. So here it is all bolted up and ready to slide back under the frame. And a view from the Left:

Jetted to 45/125, then started heat cycles today. It fired right up but was idling weird. It'd run fine on the choke, but almost immediately lose RPM, sputter and threaten to die unless I tickled the choke again every 30 seconds. On one trip reaching in to apply choke, I felt a weird draft. Inspection revealed the carb sitting askew! I know exactly how I got distracted as I was pushing the carb on.
Once properly seated the second heat cycle - idling with light throttle, shrouds OFF to speed things up - it sort of did the same thing. It would idle for about 1 minute before slowly losing RPM and dying. I checked carefully for leaks, finding none. It seemed better - in fact stopped the stall threat altogether - with the air screw less than 1 turn out. I guess I need a 48 or a 50 or my Alternator seal is torn - the only thing I haven't physically inspected.
I had added about 4 grams to the vario (up from 32 to 36), and decreased the preload on my Polini Adjustable clutch so it engages at about 5K or so. At the end of my 5th heat cycle, I could already appreciate how much more OOMPH this bore has off idle compared to the Corsa. Launching that one needed 6K+ and was still pretty gutless until about 10MPH. The Iron just MUSCLES away! If'n it don't blow up, I think I'm gonna like this!

You can run a metal head gasket along with the oring in the head. You csn buy the mslossi gasket set that vomes with a metal head gasket. Ask keith for them or open up a stock head gasket to bore size. If you run it like that, you risk seizing or blowing a hole in the piston. You know what happen the last time you didn't listen to me. Kaboom on your 50mm kit mini stroke

The kits are made to be bolt on in Europe where they have higher octane fuel at the pump.Most of these BBK Malossi,Polini,ect. were designed with that in mind.Wheelman-111 wrote:Greetings:

It says in the instructions that the kit is made for 95oct fuel which they have at the pump over seas. Most of these BBK Malossi,Polini,ect. I would consider adding a head gasket or 2 if you plan on running 91 octane like others have suggested. For me I dont put on as nearly as much miles as some of you guys do so I run 100LL from the airport In most of my bikes.
