BREAK-IN question
i bought my 94 sr for 100 bucks and had to rebuild the whole motor i bought a new piston but bought a used jug would i still have to treat it like a normal break in or will it be a re assemble and go
whatya mean it dont fit
Re: brake in question
Yea, you have to seat the rings. Go easy for a tank or two with maybe two cap-fulls of 2-stroke oil added to the gas tank.77 vega kammback wrote:i dought my 94 sr for 100 bucks and had to rebuild the whole motor i bought a new piston but bought a used jug would i still have to treat it like a normal brake in or will it be a re assimble and go
I hope you honed the cylinder first?

Re: brake in question
the bore will need to be honed and you need new rings .And yes it will need the break in slowly .never fit new rings to a old bore without honing it out .

Re: brake in question
step 1 is to start the motor and let it heat up slowly (at a idle ) a fue times to running temp about 5 to 8 times..
then go for short run about 3 to 4 miles not a wide open let it cool down... as for the oil in the tank i run 64 to 1 in my first fue tanks ( 2 oz per gal ) take it ezey on it for the first 100 miles no wide open ..

Re: brake in question
Check the section in this Wikispreedia write-up about honing the cylinder - it recommends a ball type hone: http://hondaspree.net/wiki/index.php5?t ... eplacement

Re: brake in question
I've tried both brake cylinder hone (3 pads) and a ball hone (thanks Noiseguy) and I really prefer the ball hone. Keep the cylinder and hone wet with honing oil, 10w30, wd40, etc. and be sure to CLEAN thoroughly before reassembling.

Re: brake in question
sounds like you have a stock cylinder, you can hone and ride easy for about 100 mi.
some people dream of speed, i own your dreams!
Re: brake in question
Probably too small for the 39mm stock cylinder. Amazon.com has the ball hones, under the name "flex-hone", in the size you need.(always get the size a mm or two larger) I think they were $10 bucks.77 vega kammback wrote:ive got a brake cylinder hone will that work
Use a slow speed cordless drill with the cylinder upside-down over a plastic bowl small enough to support the cylinder. Use some 2-stroke oil to lubricate it and make sure you give it even strokes in and out. 20 passes in and out is plenty. Directions are on the package lol.
Seating the rings is important. Please take the time to "google it" and educate yourself so you will only have to do this once.
Happy Trails!

Re: brake in question
i did not use rtv i spent a little extra to get real gaskets it pays in the end to do it right the first time ,
its all together and running im running 64 to 1 premix for the brake in and then i think 32 to 1 after (im premixing cause the oil pump was fried witch explains why it seized up on the previous owner and he didnt know y it stoped running and when i split the case the crank was snapped in two id post but i cant figure out how to resize

Re: brake in question
Did you say 64 to 1 premix? That ain't gonna work! Go back and adjust it to 32 to1 or you will be rebuilding it again. Where did you get another crankshaft from?
